My images are my experiences. I want to make the subconscious visible. I seek to portray binary elements of the human experience such as life/death, growth/decay and good/evil. I do this as a way of dealing with the world around me. And also as Phillip Guston wrote to "make myself known to myself." The challenge has been to make truthful images that are neither ironic nor kitschy.

I try to come to an image from within the process, using its advantages and limitations to the fullest, never letting a too-literal rendering ruin the emotional impact of a piece. I am attempting to use barely representational images to convey the tides of emotion within. I admire the expressionists for their pure emotionalism. The energy in the work of artists like Jackson Pollock, Nathan Oliviera, Joan Mitchell and Willem DeKooning is very satisfying to me.

I’m very excited about the work I’m currently doing. In addition to reconnecting with drawing, I have been making collages in which I am attempting to comment on notions of beauty and cultural imperialism. Experiments with collotype have been interesting as well.

As always I continue to make monotypes. I’ve found this to be a very flexible medium that allows a range of expressive marks and layering.

The imagery has evolved out of my fascination with subjects as wide ranging as classic horror movies and the stuffed animals I had as a child.
